The Hyundai Sonata is an excellent sedan that continues to bring home awards year after year. To tailor those award-winning benefits to your style, there are five Hyundai Sonata trims and three hybrid Hyundai Sonata trim levels. So which is right for you? Read on as we go over the 2023 Hyundai Sonata trim levels, and visit our Hyundai dealership to take your desired Sonata trim on a test drive.

The Hyundai Sonata SE Trim

This is the entry-level member of the Hyundai Sonata trims. But don’t think that means you’re missing out.

The Hyundai Sonata SE is loaded with great standard features. You’ll get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster display, six-way adjustable front seats, premium cloth upholstery, and more.

The Hyundai SmartSense suite of safety features is also standard on the Sonata SE. It includes adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot assist, a lane departure warning, a lane keep assist, a rear occupant alert, driver attention monitoring, forward automatic emergency braking, and more.

All Hyundai Sonata trims have a 16-cubic-foot trunk and spacious, comfortable seating for five people. But what about performance? The SE trim comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 191 horsepower and delivers an EPA-estimated 28/38 MPG (city/highway)1.

The Hyundai Sonata SEL Trim

The Hyundai Sonata SEL includes everything standard on the SE but changes some features as well as adds new ones.

You’ll get an enhanced 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a hands-free power trunk, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated side mirrors.

You also get the same Hyundai SmartSense features. However, the SEL trim adds standard Hyundai Bluelink® services. Bluelink® gives you data such as a monthly vehicle health report and provides security through automatic crash notifications.

Optional upgrades on the SEL include a panoramic sunroof, wireless device charging, leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, and more.

The SEL has identical specs to the SE. However, the Hyundai Sonata MPG differs slightly: The SEL trim delivers an EPA-estimated 27/37 MPG (city/highway)1.

The Hyundai Sonata SEL Plus Trim

The SEL trim takes everything from the prior Hyundai Sonata trims further.

As standard, it includes a 12-speaker Bose® sound system, a panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather and suede upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, wireless device charging, and more.

This third step into the Hyundai Sonata trims also gets Hyundai SmartSense features, upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels, and access to the Hyundai Digital Key app, which allows you to control your vehicle from your smartphone.

SEL Plus models use a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque and delivers an EPA-estimated 27/37 MPG (city/highway)1.

The Hyundai Sonata N-Line Trim

The Hyundai Sonata N-Line is the sportiest addition to the lineup of Hyundai Sonata trims.

As the sportiest of the Hyundai Sonata trims, the unique Sonata N-Line is powered by a fierce 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that lays down a thrilling 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. This huge power increase doesn’t demand a huge MPG decrease; the Sonata N-Line delivers an EPA-estimated 23/33 MPG (city/highway)1.

To complement the power, the N-Line trim takes the standard features of previous Hyundai Sonata trim levels and adds N-Line sport seats, a panoramic sunroof, a black mesh grille, N-Line front and rear fascias, unique 19-inch wheels, quad exhaust tips, LED interior lights, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, 64 ambient interior lighting colors, and more.

The Sonata N-Line also adds a standard highway driving assist to the Hyundai SmartSense package.

The Hyundai Sonata Limited Trim

This is the most luxurious of all the Hyundai Sonata trims.

Excluding unique N-Line features (such as the fascias, seats, and sport steering wheel), the Hyundai Sonata Limited includes everything seen above as a starting point.

From there, this top-of-the-line trim adds a leather-wrapped dashboard, plush leather seat upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, a six-way power front passenger’s seat, a surround-view monitor, a color heads-up display, and much more.

To round out the Hyundai Sonata trims, the Limited model adds reverse automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot view monitor, remote parking assist, and more to the Hyundai SmartSense package. The power and mileage on the Sonata Limited are the same as the SEL Plus model.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Trims

If you want to add even more efficiency to your Hyundai Sonata, these three affordable hybrids are a great choice:

  • The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Blue: This value-packed trim level comes with proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Blue Link, a six-way driver’s seat, and more. Just like the other Hyundai Sonata trims, the Hybrid Blue trim comes standard with the Hyundai SmartSense safety suite. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor combine to produce 192 horsepower and deliver an incredible EPA-estimated 50/54 MPG (city/highway)3.
  • The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid SEL: This trim adds standard upgrades like heated front seats, a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated side mirrors, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, wireless device charging, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual USB ports, and a 12-speaker Bose® sound system. The powertrain on all three hybrid variants are the same, but the Hybrid SEL delivers an EPA-estimated 45/51 MPG (city/highway)3.
  • The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited: This top-of-the-line model goes even further. You get an eight-way power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, a solar roof that helps power your vehicle, ambient interior lighting, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. It also adds front & rear parking sensors, a head-up display, a rear park assist, a surround-view monitor, and a highway driving assist. The Limited trim shares the same powertrain and MPG estimates as the SEL trim.
